"All changes, even the most longed for, have their melancholy; for what we leave behind us is a part of ourselves; we must die to one life before we can enter another." Anatole France
There are those times in life when I tend to sit back and wonder what am I doing with my life. I find those moments happen a bit more frequently during the holidays. Maybe it is the end of the year approaching. Father Time is dragging towards the new year and I can hear his breathing. Maybe it is the shortness of day making each day see to pass so much more quickly. Whatever the reason reflection of purpose is powerful to me.
This past weekend a few family members, friends, and I participated in the St. Jude's Marathon weekend. I did not run a marathon, just a little old 5K. The entire 5 kilometers was a time of reflection for me. My cousin, Amy, and I enjoyed our run/walk, but I kept thinking about how powerful the last two years have been for me since my niece's Alli's diagnosis. I have made some decisions I would not have made without realizing how quickly life passes us by. I have done some things I would have been to afraid to try. I have worried less and trusted God more, but I am still not who I want to be as a wife, mother, teacher, friend, sibling, and daughter. Yet...I am closer.
I wonder sometimes why I would ever sit in a miserable state. Is change so difficult that I would rather remain where I am instead of chancing something new? I like comfortable, even if it is painful. Why? The unknown is scary. The known may stink, but at least I know it.
We are all called to change and to grow. We can fight it or accept it. Change is coming regardless. Think about something you may want to do differently or something you want to do you have never done. What is holding you back? Habits? Finances? Motivation? Relationships? Don't be afraid. Life is TOO SHORT! Don't wait for a diagnosis you did not want to hear or a loss you could have avoided. Embrace the crazy! Do the impossible!
All of your trials may have been preparation for this change....so embrace the crazy! Do the impossible! Your life will never be the same and odds are other peoples' lives will be changed too. You are in the midst of the preparation, be thankful for where you are! Be prepared!
Don't live a day miserable. Your life....my life... is too valuable to not be joyful. I don't mean perfectly happy all the time, but rather know you are fulfilling your purpose despite the tribulations. You are fearfully and wonderfully made. Find your purpose! Find your calling! Live your life!
I am a teacher, which in a single word, sums up my passions and my belief in the future.
