WOW! What a crazy few weeks this has been. School is rolling and the weather has finally begun to change to COOL! Today I presented in New Orleans at the NCTM Regional Conference. What a blast! I presented the first time 14 years ago with Gwen Boudreaux, Debbie Gautreaux, and Sheila Savoy. I was not sure when they invited me what in the world I would say. I remember being very nervous. Today was completely different. I was very relaxed and enjoyed the session, because I have learned teachers are teachers. We have so much in common, I know we will enjoy each other even if we are complete strangers! The common bond of working with children makes us instant friends.
Also, this past week our charter school district, Advance Baton Rouge, was chosen in partnership with National Institute for Excellence in Teacher for a $13.3 million Teacher Incentive Fund grant. The money will be used to further implement the Teacher Advancement Program in our five schools. This grant is a tremendous step in the direction of paying teachers for expertise. The state also won a large TIF grant that will be shared with many districts including Ascension. I am so happy for my teachers friends!
The world of teaching is changing. I am sure some changes will not be pleasant, but I also know without change
I am a teacher, which in a single word, sums up my passions and my belief in the future.
